A comedown after the excellent ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN, MEXICAN HAYRIDE is an adaptation of the 1944 Cole Porter stage musical of the same name.  Somewhat bizarrely, all of the Cole Porter songs were left out of the film!

The boys play conmen on the run in Mexico, and it is not a good fit.  While occassionally amusing, the only time the film really comes to life is when Sid Fields shows up as a reporter who won't let Lou get a word in edgewise, and later when Fritz Feld shows up as an elocution teacher.  Other than that, this hayride is pretty dull. 2 - JB
